Widening Tony’s relationship circle
Tony felt that his relationship circle is not as full as he would like. Here are some of the steps that Michelle (Tony’s support worker) helped Tony to take in order to increase the number of people that he knew and strengthen some of his existing relationships.
Strengthening family relationships
Tony’s priority was to improve his relationship with his son Calvin.
Michelle started by helping Tony to telephone his son; the two now talk together once a week and Calvin is making plans to visit his dad more regularly.
Tracking down old friends
Michelle managed to help Tony track down his old band friend David who still lived in the area. She then supported Tony to write to David and the two met up to talk about old times.
David is a regular at a social club a few miles away and Tony is making plans for a night out there with Dave some time.
Making new friends
Charlie is Michelle’s father. He’s a keen chess player and loves old war films and westerns – and it turns out so does Tony.
Michelle arranged for Charlie to meet Tony and the two hit it off straight away and now meet up every other week.
Getting involved with the community
Michelle got in touch with the local good neighbors community group and arranged for a volunteer to visit Tony once a week.
Tony now leaves the house to meet group members, and he is beginning to see these people as friends.
